I have always loved Olay products. First I have tried the Olay Moisturizer (total effects 7 signs) and it worked wonders on me. It was my ex-husband's wedding gift during our wedding 2006. I would rate it to a blazing 5 stars. Eversince, my confidence in the product has never changed.
This time around, I would like to blog about the face & body wash and beauty bar, my church bff, Lesli Gampon gave as her Christmas present. The set inclueds the face and body wash, beauty bar and white net sponge. Please feel free to leave your comment below.
What I liked about the front is the "your best beautiful" tag in a ribbon. Every woman who'd look at it would notice it right away. The tag is so catchy and attracts girls to feel beautiful. Next, on the upper right corner, it has the LIMITED EDITION GIFT SET mark which adds more to the originality of the product. Knowing it's limited is so perfect to make you feel special.
So, the back of it is packed with details. Before we go with that, you would notice the gold logo of Olay on top of the Olay Total Effects. By the right side, left area before the ribbon, and left bottom side are the Circle Mark uniquely drawn for Olay and the left side is the flowing ribbon with Olay wordings in it. On the right bottom is the bar code with the genuine mark of the limited edition numbers.
The face and body WASH was manufactured in China while the Body BAR was in the Philippines.

1. Petrolatum - Use in Cosmetics
Petrolatum is mineral oil jelly (i.e. petroleum jelly). It is used as a barrier to lock moisture in the skin in a variety of moisturizers and also in hair care products to make your hair shine.
Health and Environmental Hazards
A petroleum product, petrolatum can be contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Studies suggest that exposure to PAHs — including skin contact over extended periods of time — is associated with cancer. i On this basis, the European Union classifies petrolatum a carcinogen ii and restricts its use in cosmetics. PAHs in petrolatum can also cause skin irritation and allergies.
Regulatory Status
In the European Union, petrolatum can only be used in cosmetics "if the full refining history is known and it can be shown that the substance from which it is produced is not a carcinogen." iv There is no parallel restriction in Canada. Petrolatum has been flagged for future assessment under the government's Chemicals Management Plan.

2. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS or NaDS), sodium laurilsulfate or sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is an organic compound with the formula CH3(CH2)11OSO3Na. It is an anionic surfactant used in many cleaning and hygiene products. The salt is of an organosulfate consisting of a 12-carbon tail attached to a sulfate group, giving the material the amphiphilic properties required of a detergent. Derived from inexpensive coconut and palm oils, it is a common component of many domestic cleaning products.
3. Sodium Trideceth Sulfate - salts of sulfated ethoxylated fatty alcohols. The alcohol is either a specific alcohol, such as lauryl alcohol, or a mixture of alcohols, for example coconut alcohol. These ingredients are primarily used in cleansing products, including bubble baths, bath soaps and detergents and shampoos. Among the alkyl ether sulfate ingredients, Sodium Laureth Sulfate is most commonly used in cosmetics and personal care products. Exhibits a high degree of foaming and impart "softness" to the skin. These ingredients are especially useful in soap products when the products are used in high mineral content water (hard water).
4. Sodium Lauroamphoacetate is an ideal ingredient for mild/gentle shampoos and cleansers are it’s very mild and compatible with skin. It also works by reducing the irritancy level of other ingredients in a product turning your favourite product into the adult equivalent of a baby shampoo. You will be pleased to know that Sodium Lauroamphoacetate is a naturally derived surfactants so while it will not foam up like a conventional SLS product
5. Trideceth-3 are polyethylene glycol ethers of tridecyl alcohol. The number in the name indicates the average number of units of ethylene oxide in the molecule. In cosmetic and personal care products, the Trideceth ingredients are used in the formulation of a variety of skin care and hair care products.
6. Citric acid is a weak organic acid with the formula C6H8O7. It is a naturalpreservative/conservative which occurs naturally in citrus fruits and is also used to add an acidic or sour taste to foods and drinks. In biochemistry, the conjugate base of citric acid, citrate, is important as an intermediate in the citric acid cycle, which occurs in the metabolism of all aerobic organisms. It consists of 3 carboxyl (R-COOH) groups.
Citric acid is a commodity chemical, and more than a million tonnes are produced every year by fermentation. It is used mainly as an acidifier, as a flavoring, and as a chelating agent.
7. Guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride is an organic compound that is a water-soluble quaternary ammonium derivative of guar gum. It gives conditioning properties to shampoos and after-shampoo hair care products. The effects of the cationic charge density, guar concentration in aqueous solution, and treatment time on bleached European hair have been studied. A mechanical testing method has been successfully applied to determine the efficacy of cationic guars to improve the ease of combing. The results were confirmed in a shampoo formulation on both virgin and bleached hair.
8. Sodium benzoate has the chemical formula NaC7H5O2; it is a widely used food preservative, with E number E211. It is the sodium salt of benzoic acid and exists in this form when dissolved in water. It can be produced by reacting sodium hydroxide with benzoic acid. Benzoic acid occurs naturally at low levels in cranberries, prunes, greengage plums, cinnamon, ripe cloves, and apples.
9. Acrylonitrile/Methacry-Ionitrile/Methyl Methacrylate Copolymer- It is known in the art to heat copolymers formed from unsaturated carboxylic acids, unsaturated carboxylic acidnitriles, and predominant quantities of further monomers at temperatures of 100 C.-200 C., whereby carboxyl groups add to nitrile groups present in the copolymer to form cross-linking imide groups of the formula The polymers are rendered insoluble in organic solvents by the cross-linking
10. Xanthan gum is a sugar-like compound made by mixing aged (fermented) sugars with a certain kind of bacteria. It is used to make medicine. It is used for lowering blood sugar and total cholesterol in people with diabetes. It is also used as a laxative. It is sometimes used as a saliva substitute in people with dry mouth (Sjogren's syndrome). In manufacturing, xanthan gum is used as a thickening and stabilizing agent in foods, toothpastes, and medicines. Xanthan gum is also an ingredient in some sustained-release pills.

11. Disodium-EDTA - Cosmetic manufacturers frequently use this ingredient for a variety purposes. It primarily works as a preservative, chelator and stabilizer, but has also been shown to enhance the foaming and cleaning capabilities of a cosmetic solution. As a metal chelator, it counteracts the adverse effects of hard water by binding with heavy metal ions contained in tap water, which in turn prevents the metals from being depositied onto the skin, hair and scalp. This makes it a particularly useful ingredient for rinse-off products that inherently require water to come into contact with the skin. Essentially, this ingredient deactivates the metal ions through bonding with them, which inturn prevents cosmetic products from deteriorating, maintains its clarity and prevents it from smelling rancid. You can find this ingredient in virtually every personal care product including facial moisturizer/lotion, sunscreen, anti-aging treatment, cleanser, shampoo/conditioner, hair dye, body wash and eye cream.
12. PEG-90M - Water soluble, very mild, nonionic polymer compatible with most personal care ingredients. It adds lubricity to a formulation and has excellent film forming properties. Use concentration: 0.1-1%.
13. Isopentane - also called methylbutane or 2-methylbutane, is a branched-chain alkane with five carbon atoms. Isopentane is an extremely volatile and extremely flammable liquid at room temperature and pressure. The normal boiling point is just a few degrees above room temperature and isopentane will readily boil and evaporate away on a warm day. Isopentane is commonly used in conjunction with liquid nitrogen to achieve a liquid bath temperature of −160 °C. It is 1% or less of natural gas.
14. Niacinamide - Niacin and niacinamide are forms of Vitamin B3. Vitamin B3 is found in many foods including yeast, meat, fish, milk, eggs, green vegetables, beans, and cereal grains. Niacin and niacinamide are also found in many vitamin B complex supplements with other B vitamins.
15. Tocopheryl acetate, also known as vitamin E acetate, is a common vitamin supplement with the molecular formula C31H52O3 (for 'α' form). It is the ester of acetic acid and tocopherol (vitamin E). It is often used in dermatological products such as skin creams. Tocopheryl acetate is not oxidized and can penetrate through the skin to the living cells, where about 5% is converted to free tocopherol and provides beneficial antioxidant effects.
Tocopheryl acetate is used as an alternative to tocopherol itself because the phenolic hydroxyl group is blocked, providing a less acidic product with a longer shelf life. It is believed that the acetate is slowly hydrolyzed once it is absorbed into the skin, regenerating tocopherol and providing protection against the sun's ultraviolet rays.
16. Retinyl Propionate - In a six-month clinical study, a new three-product skin care regimen containing a deep wrinkle treatment with retinyl propionate was professionally tested and clinically proven to be as effective as the leading antiaging prescription brand indicated for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles (0.02% tretinoin in an emollient base). Others studies have shown that retinyl propionate may be less irritating to skin than the prescription retinoic acid, retinaldehyde, and retinol. It could provide a good alternative for women who cannot tolerate these retinoids.
17. Methylchloroisothiazolinone (5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one), also referred to as MCI, is a preservative with antibacterial and antifungal effects within the group of isothiazolinones. It is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, yeast, and fungi.
Methylchloroisothiazolinone is found in many water-based personal care products and cosmetics.Methylchloroisothiazolinone was first used in cosmetics in the 1970s. It is also used in glue production, detergents, paints, fuels, and other industrial processes. Methylchloroisothiazolinone is known by the registered tradename Kathon CG when used in combination with methylisothiazolinone. Methylchloroisothiazolinone may be used in combination with other preservatives including ethylparaben, benzalkonium chloride, or 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol.
18. Methylisothiazolinone or simply called MIT is classified as a preservative. It belongs to a group of isothiazolinones which are used in many personal care products such as shampoos and soaps. These chemicals have the amazing ability to control the growth of microbes in a solution. It may also be added to products to preserve its smell.
Methylisothiazolinone is used in many industries such as paper, fuels as well as in the mining industry. Although the chemicals that belong to the isothiazolinones are perfect in preserving products and in keeping them microbe free, they are however toxic to fish and the environment as well. Methylisothiazolinone is found to have caused many occupational illnesses and researchers have found this product to be an allergenic and a cytotoxic as well.

Next, is the beauty BAR. Look at the box...isn't it cool? i love it! The color combination is perfect. Plus the luster and smoothness are exquisite.
If you look closer, you would notice the engraved series of numbers that makes it original and limited ~ 4280204332 071014. Isn't it perfect?!
By the side is the detailed Effect of the body BAR. Net weight is 90 g. If you look closer again, the box has its Olay mark (face of a lady) above the word irresistible. The gold circles are Olay owned for marketing. Down the bar code are little numbers 96326710 which may refer to something Olay owned again.
Ingredients of the beauty BAR are almost all the same as the wash with some difference like the Magnesium Cocoate, Titanium Dioxide, Lauric Acid, Distyrylbipheryl (which many skin care companies market it as an optical brightener, one that absorbs light to make the face look whiter. It can be found in products such as anti-aging treatment, bar soap, eye cream and facial moisturizer), and Shea butter.
So when you open the box, the right side would show some series of x's on it. Then on the other side of it would be the colored boxes. I guess these are for the manufacturing purposes.
Both WASH and BAR smells tender and sweet. While applying the wash on my skin, the aroma relaxes me and lathering is so easy. Rinsing is no problem. But after rinsing, the smoothness and softness stays just like the face cream indeed. Feels so new and fresh.
The beauty BAR is as perfect as the body wash. I use it alternate since it has the same effect as the wash. It gives me a smooth, moisturized and clean feeling. Unlike some moisturizing soap, it is not easily melting. Honestly, you might not need to wear some lotion anymore. I just do to double my moisturizer protection. It's really up to you.
I just started using these two days ago and I already feel more beautiful ~ no kidding! So, I am counting on becoming more beautiful in the next weeks. I hope the wash would take me 3 months to consume and the bar 1 and half month. No guessing for a more beautiful me anymore ~ I am perfectly SURE!
Now that I am in my late 30's, I would like to focus more on what is good for my skin both topical and inside. I will pay attention to it much wiser now. I think Olay products is just a perfect company for this journey.
