What Makes Krispy Kreme Awesome

For almost 80 years, these perfectly ringed dough nuts (donuts) made from company's proprietary air-pressurized extruder have delighted customers through all ages.  Both young and old enjoys the sinful flavor.  

My daughter is a donut fan.  She loves the local ones but after I brought home a box of 6 pcs of Krispy Kreme, her smiles widened-up.  My mom loves it too.  As a mom, I love discovering sweets for our home.  This is one of my discoveries I am happy to share here.

Here are my mommy findings about Krispy Kreme:

Who is the MAN behind Krispy Kreme anyway?  It's VERNON RUDOLF from Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

How it started?  He made donuts by the dozen at a rented building in Old Salem and sold them first in local grocery stores.  But the demand got higher he had to sell the donuts to the customers directly.

How is it made?  The famous honey glazed donuts.  For about 30 minutes, the yeasty dough is formed into rings.  Then fried in vegetable shortening.  Then it passes through a waterfall of warm 120 degrees F sugar glazed or before hand-glazed in a galvanized wash tub.  The glaze cools and sets the donuts.  Employees boxed them at the assembly line.  

Vernon is said to have bought the recipe from a New Orleans French chef.  The secret ingredient that makes it special is never known to men - not now or never.  But historians says recipe likely consisted of cream of fluffed egg whites, mashed potatoes, sugar, shortening, skim milk and flour.  

How flexible are the variety?  Krispy Kreme offers variety of flavor like kit kat chocolate filled, strawberry sprinkles, chocolate iced with Kreme filling, nutella, black forest, black forest, etc.  For more variety of KK in the Philippines, check HERE.

What goes perfect with it?  Coffee.  Krispy Kreme is also known for serving coffee in its signature green cups.  Now it also serves hot chocolate, which is by far, my fave because the chocolate flavor is so tamed where sweetness is mild so eating with sweet donut makes a perfect blend to the taste.  There's also iced coffee that goes for customers who prefers cold coffee and a chocolate frappe too.

How about the prices?  Affordable.  One honey glazed donut is 39 Php.  While other flavor is 59 Php.

Their duo (donut and coffee/chocolate) varies from time to time.  The one I brought home from Krispy Kreme Drive-thru @ Burgos Circle, Taguig for 6 pcs (3 honey-glazed and 3 assorted flavor) was 199 Php.  The 12 pcs (6 honey-glazed and 6 assorted flavor) was 475 Php.  

What inspires the Krispy Kreme logo?  It's because the company sponsors some top-notch drivers of race car tracks.  Currently, it sponsors Gray Gaulding.

What can customers expect aside from the sweet tooth adventure?  Throughout the year, the chain offers tons of promotions that allow them to snag free sweets.

During our visit, after paying and getting the receipt, Edna, the staff advised us to go through the online survey and enter the code from the receipt to avail the 1 honey glazed FREE donut with brewed coffee.

Will we recommend Krispy Kreme?  DEFINITELY.  Here are my Top 5's:

1.  The dough is soft and easy to chew.  I love the honey-glazed (best-seller).  Honestly, I can only eat 1 donut but with KK, I was able to eat 3 of them. A cheat day for a mom like me.  But I loved it.  

2.  The chain was so clean.  Cleanliness should really go with a food chain.  This one's a top notch.

3.  Ambiance and staff.  Where we dined was a drive-thru.  We sat outside the cold chain. It was kinda hot since it's summer but we loved the fresh air from the trees outside Burgos Circle.  Plus the staff was friendly and nice.

4.  Price.  Just affordable for its great and perfect sweet treat.

5. Location.  Never thought it was so close by work place.  Some few minutes walk actually. So it was fun.
