Butterfly Farm & Tribal Village : Itinerary + Budget

What do you know about Butterflies?  By tradition, they say when a brown butterfly enters your home, it's a sign of money. With yellow, its a sign of good news. With black, it's a sign of someone who recently died.

One of Palawan's pride is also providing active awareness to visitors about butterflies, green-crested lizards, phasmid and mantises (some endangered species). This is a sanctuary of different butterfly species in Southeast Asia. Used to be just butterfly farm but now with tribal village. Located Bunk House Rd, in Santa Monica, Puerto Princesa.

ITINERARY

12:00 NN - 12:15 PM   :   ETA Butterfly Farm / Pay Fees
After PWRCC, Kuya Ramon drove us to one of the most interesting tour, the Butterfly Farm. I love butterflies. Finally, I can see this farm. The tricycle trip was fast, around 15 minutes only. We paid for our fees but kuya Ramon was exempted because he's the driver.  Refer to budget for the fees.

As soon as we entered, a lushful garden welcomed us. Oh it was so green and fresh! A guy assisted us with the mini tour. He asked us to pose with our palms open in front and took our photo.
you may sit on this to take photo as if you're a butterfly
the net above to protect the butterflies
He takes care of the butterfly life cycle. He let me hold a black butterfly on my palm. It was so lovely. It didn't mind to fly, as if it's comfortable sitting. Such a social butterfly. We also saw its life cycle and was showcased with hanging actual samples of pupae and cocoons.  So neat!  We roamed a bit in the garden. I took some photos of the endangered species like the black scorpion.

12:15 PM - 12:45 PM   :  Tribal Village Show
Next part of the tour was watching a show by the Palau'an tribal people. A host introduced their way of life (hunting & making fire) and arts and culture (singing and dancing). We have learned a lot from this ethnic group. They use "supukan (sumpit) to hunt animals.

ORIGIN. According to our host, they come from the mountains and stay at the village to make a show as additional to their living per family.  After two weeks, another family comes to replace them.

LANGUAGE. Only numbered of them can speak Filipino or understand.

APPEARANCE. They are dressed like the Igorots.  Men are topless with bahag at the waist. Their skin is brown and body medium built. Their height also average.
a birdsong "BAGUIT"

a courtship "LEULILAN" song

a 6 pcs string song "ARUDING"
a pre-teen boy and adult showing how to make fire
This was the highlight of the show. They introduced to us their pet python. My goodness, they held it like a dog. So here I was to check my bucket lists. Finally held a python! How did it feel?  Felt COLD and SMOOTH. It's true this creature is a cold-blooded animal. I also sensed some muscles or cartilage maybe. This was my best shot so far. Kuya Ramon also had this python wrap him. hahaha.

After the Tribal Village Show, you may drop in any amount. You also buy their handmade products at the open store nearby. We dropped in 100 php for their group. We left with a happy heart.

12:45 PM - 01:00 PM   :   Enjoy View/Took Photos of the Garden
What I love about this butterfly farm was how it was protected and secured.  The garden, carefully taken care, rich with plants and flowers make the area a great habitat for butterflies to propagate.  It also has a net above to make sure they won't leave.

wild boar
01:00 PM - 01:15 PM   :   ETD Butterfly Farm
"Before we left, we took photos of this beautiful backdrop peacock's tail. Such a magnificent painting.  Sitting in front makes it look like its your tail.
When you leave the place, you will pass by their souvenir store where you can buy items to bring home. We didn't anymore coz time was running out.
