Sto. Nino Beach, Palawan by Henri

The gang took the 5-6 hours van back to Puerto Princesa on the 15th.  I guess, it’s more comfy for them there.

They were enjoying the night till morning drinking like Henri said “now we’re drinking some liquor so no worries..”  “these guys are crazzyyyy…”    That sounds like what?  You can guess.

Even at 10:06 am, Henri was still awake. Imagine that sleep tolerance.   I guess when you have fun with your friends time does not matter, huh?!   How long can you stay awake? Dare to do the no-sleep challenge?   Don’t expect me to join…nevermind. Hahaha.  Well,  still Henri said “I need more sleep…hahaha”

To highlight that merry feeling in the air, I told Henri - “Thank you for sharing your wonderful happy personality…”  and his reply was a humble laughter “hahaha…thank you!

Feb. 20th, they were back to Puerto Princesa.  They watched the Philippine Derby.  What can you say about the rooster derby?  “I have a HATE-LOVE opinion about rooster fight. Hahaha.”  How do you mean?  “…because at the same time, it’s right because this is the culture, but on my mind, it’s wrong because the cock’s get killed.”

On the 18th, the gang left going to SANTO NINO BEACH and there would be no wifi in a couple of days…

Where is Sto. Nino?  It is a barangay next to Alimanguan going North.  This is called Long Beach C.  Part of Long Beach but to the north end.  Sto. Nino boast the linear beach head in San Vicente. This is the best area for bathing and other water activities.  This is not as crowded at Alimanguan and very suitable for a real property for a quiet but convenient location.  Second lots are desirable here. Snake Island & 7 Commandos Beach by Henri

How have you been?  “All good! Enjoying life at the moment…hahaha. But I hate flies!”

On the morrow of 10th, they took the 4 hours van from Port Baton to EL NIDO. The fare was P600.00 per head (foreigner).  It was a safer ride. Besides, they were able to just relax.

Here's their wonderful photo during their island hopping at Snake Island.  My goodness, the sun was scorching...but these guys didn't mind at all.

On the 13th, they enjoyed 7 Commandos Beach. Such a perfect place to just chillax. They spent 4 days sun basking like swinging on a rope like this.  Who's that guy?

Look at how calm and relax the tourists are?  And the water seemed to be just calm too.

EL NIDO (officially the municipality of El Nido ) is a first class community and managed resource protected area in the province of Palawan in the Philippines.  It is about 420 km (260 mi) southwest of Manila, about 238 km (148 mi) north-east of Puerto Princesa, Palawan's capital. According to CNNgo, it is the Best Beach and Island destination in the Philippines for its "extraordinary natural splendor and ecosystem."

El Nido is a Philippine municipality on Palawan island. It's known for its white-sand beaches, coral reefs and as the gateway to the Bacuit Archipelago, a group of islands of steep karst reefs. Miniloc island is famed for the clear waters of its Small and Big Lagoons. Nearby Shimizu islands has fish-filled waters. Balite Falls, Cavite by Henri

In the morning of 28th, he woke up with a bit of swollen throat.  I advised to avoid sweets.  He asked why? Coz sweets tend to worsen sore throats...is that right? Well, both are us are having a hard time resisting sweets.  How about you?

He had no plans but went with the flow.  He got to visit and see BALITE FALLS at Cavite which was rather small and crowded with trees.  But the pictures still looked nice.

And again, ate shawarma but without the pies for dinner. Shawarma is good...one of my faves too...especially when spicy!!

The No-Plans-just-chilling thing continued to the next day, 29th.  He had lumpia, apple pie and three beers for dinners. These are cheap and yet yummy food here in the Philippines. Lumpia is like an egg roll with chopped vegetables and some tofu or ground pork in it.

Henri shared to me that Esa’s and half of the passenger’s packs were lost or misplaced by the flight company. Good thing he got it back but it was really late around 3:45 in the morning of 30th.

He woke up with a heavy feeling, nose clogged and coughing.  Must be the weather.

He began packing this stuff to meet his friend Esa in Manila.

Taal Lake, Batangas, and Tagaytay by Henri

On 25th, Monday, Henri went to TAGAYTAY.  For him Victory Liner is the best bus operator he has taken by far. He checked-in at a hostel for P250 a night only. Wasn't that a sweet deal?!

The next day, 26th, Henri was outside hostel all day long.  He was not able to see Taal Lake yet because it was windy and wavy.   He was tired and just wished for a warm water for shower.

On the 27th, Henri finally got to see TAAL LAKE closer.  “Whoa it was nice!”

For dinner, he ate shawarma, mango and apple pie.  Oh my! When you visit Tagaytay, these pies are totally worth trying to eat for.  Right Henri?!

Vikings Resort, Subic Bay, Zambales by Henri

The next day, from up, Henri went down to Subic.  He checked-in at Vikings Resort located at #50 Baloy Long Beach, Bo Barretto, Subic Bay, Subic (Zambales), Philippines 2200.  You may visit Agoda for more updated discounted rates.

He went outside early to jog, train, walk and relax while enjoying the sunrise by the seashore.  Imagine the sea breeze and calm surrounding feeling in the air of your lungs. Clean air plus clean environment is healthy life.  Such a perfect picture!

To end the day, was watching the orange sunset.  He had a short chit chat with one Filipino while gazing at it.

SUBIC is a first class municipality in the province of Zambales, located along the northern coast of Subic Bay in the Philippines. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 89,724  and a first class income classification.

Like Iba, the provincial capital, and neighboring Olongapo City, Subic is also fast-growing municipality and is expected to become a component city, or a highly-urbanized city if population increases to 200,000 or more in the future, as well as increase in income.  It is former home of one of the largest US military facilities outside of the US mainland, the Subic Bay Naval Base. Sagada, Mountain Province, by Henri

After Hundred Islands, on the 9th, Henri went up to BAGUIO via Victory Liner bus transit and stayed at Upstairs Bed and Bath for 11 days.  Since coming to the country, he has eaten balut, lumpia, different kind of soups, and street foods.  In Baguio, he has eaten the best chicken curry so far, and garlic rice with omelette.

He had some gym boxing and shape up exercises for a short time in an old creepy mall.

The most amazing part was climbing the SAGADA with new acquaintances from Manila.

"SAGADA (Ilocano - Ili ti Sagada) is a fifth class municipality in the province of Mountain Province. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 11,244 people. It is located 275 kilometers(171 sq mi) north of Manila (12- 15 hours by bus), 140 kilometers (87 mi) from Baguio, and is adjacent to Bontoc, the provincial capital.

Sagada is famous for its hanging coffins.  It is a traditional way of burying people. Not everyone is qualified to be buried this way; among other things, one had to have been married and had grandchildren.

Popular activities include trekking, exploring both caves and waterfalls, spelunking, bonfires, picnics, rappelling, visiting historical sites, nature hikes, and participating in tribal celebrations. Guides can be found upon registration at the tourist-office in Sagada Proper (the main town) for a small fee.  Most of the guides are natives, also known as Igorots. "(wikipedia)

After the day's activity, he did a little bit of training in his room like stretching and push-ups preparing for his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu match on the 24th.  And yes for a traveler, eating at random like in 2 - 4 hours or even when he remembers is Henri.  Good thing the resto had a wifi so he was able to plan his coming activities.  Google, trip advisor, and Agoda are helpful aids.  Price is his number 1 factor when making decisions.  What about you when you travel?

Henri @ Seven Commandos & Snake Island, El Nido

Hi mommies & bff's! As you know, Philippines is a capital tourist destination especially when it comes to beaches.  El Nido tops the list.  

Here's a Chat blog as tourist testimonial I wanna share to everyone and feature a Finnish guy friend, Henri Saarenpaa whom I met in my Hundred Island adventure.  He's a solo traveler who happens to fall in love with Philippines.  

Here's he's first-hand experience with Seven Commando's beach, El Nido.

TESTIMONIAL ITINERARY

10th  

6 am to 10 am  -  Took the van from Port Baton to El Nido.  Fare 600 per foreigner/pax

13th to 17th  -  spent the day in a private beach in El Nido. Spent 4 days basking and playing under the sun and sand like swinging on a rope like this.

Their stop was the 7 Commandos Beach.  This is one of the most fascinating islands of El Nido.

Well, as you see on the background, this is the best spot for tourists to just lie down, do sun basking and be burned. Chillax!  Don't think about anything. Let the waters of the sea relax your mind and body.

Inambakan Falls, Cordoba, Cebu by Henri

The next day they went to INAMBAKAN FALLS at Ginatilan, Cordoba, Southern Cebu.  Look at these photos.  Majestic view huh?!

Inambakan Falls - Ginatilan is a municipality situated in the Southwest part of Cebu, and is famous for being the hometown of the second Filipino saint, St. Pedro Calungsod. Most people visit the place because of their devotion to the saint and their love for nature.  And what is it really Inambakan Falls?  A lot actually.  It is just one among the many waterfalls found in the Philippines. But what makes it so unique is the fact that it is called the hidden treasure of Ginatilan, which means, not a lot of people have gone there yet. (wikipedia & Trip advisor)

How to Get There

From Cebu City, you can take vans for hire or buses to get to the town of Ginatilan. Travel time can take 4-5 hours, depending on the traffic. Once you arrive, look for a tricycle or multicab that agrees in taking you there for a fair price. The falls is located 3.9 kilometers from the town center, and can be reached by small private vehicles. The road to the falls is a bit tricky, which poses a danger to those who are unfamiliar with it. If you don’t want problems along the way, it is best to hire a local driver who knows the path so well.

The multicab will eventually stop at a certain drop-off, since the road is smaller this time. You will need to trek to the falls for approximately five minutes. Nature lovers will surely get excited with the scenery along the way. The river starts appearing in a few minutes during the trek, and the path is surrounded by lush greens and coconut trees. By this time, you will hear the rustling sound of water from afar. Not long, the waterfalls will appear in front of you.

When going to the waters, it is important to stay alert for jagged stones and slippery rocks. The last thing you’d probably want during your visit here is getting injured or stabbed by rough rocks. It is also important to take precautionary measures when swimming. If you have lifevests, wear them before going into the water. Although there are some parts that are just shallow, it is wise to be cautious, especially if you have children who don’t know how to swim.

Moalboal, Cebu by Henri

On the 25th, they went to MOALBOAL.  First they took the bus going to Bato then to Moalboal.  He got to bed around past 8 pm because he was so tired. Who would not get tired? hahaha.

This is a Nice Place!!!

MOALBOAL is a fourth income class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines.  According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 27,676.  In the 2013 election, it has 18,663 registered voters.

Extending as a peninsula on the south-western tip of Cebu, Moalboal is bordered to the west by the Tanon Strait.  From the western shoreline, Negros Island can be seen.  Moalboal is located 89 kilometers (55 mi) from Cebu City, about 2 1/2 hours by bus.

Moalboal is between the towns of Alcantara and Badian.  From the bridge located in Moalboal town can be seen the popular tourist attraction, Pescador Island. (wikipedia & trip advisor)

Basdaku is not only a white sand beach but, of course, it has crystal clear pristine water. The beach is very much available to the public and great for most activities allowed by the management that watches over and maintains its natural environment.

Facilities, Accommodations, Fun Activities & Adventures

Small Local Restaurants

These restaurants are locally called ‘karenderya’. Its in the karenderyas where you can enjoy local dishes cooked from freshly caught sea foods. They also offer meat dishes – pork, beef, goat. The price is usually much cheaper compared to bigger restaurants. Karenderyas are very simple and provide basic space for eating with tables and chairs. Usually they have full and open views of the surrounding!

Accommodation or Tent

Basdaku Beach Resort offers various sorts of affordable accommodation rates. Basically, the standard room rate is PhP1,500 while the family room is about PhP2000/night. But these rates could vary depending on the establishment’s proximity to the beach, their facilities, among other amenities you prefer.

If you are more of a cowboy, scout or adventurous type, you can bring with you a tent and pitch it on the area where it is allowed.

Preparing Your Meals

Since this is a public beach, you are allowed to bring in your own food supplies. And the good thing is that they even allow you to cook your food, that is, if you bother to carry heavy loads to this area (which mostly wouldn’t want to do!).

And, the good news is that they have grilling and cooking equipment available for rent, if you wish. You can easily buy fresh sea foods or any from the market nearby Basdaku Beach. Just take a motorcycle for a 25-peso ride.

Just keep the surrounding always clean after cooking.

South Bus Terminal

Take a bus from Cebu South Bus Terminal that heads to Moalboal Municipality. This terminal is located in Lion Kilat Street close to E-Mall (Elizabeth Mall). You can find choices of bus companies and franchised vans for your trip.

The fare is over PHP100, especially for air-con buses and less for non-aircon ones. Although many passengers get off at Basdaku, it is better to inform the konduktor (‘conductor’ is the guy that collects fare inside the bus) to drop you off where Basdaku can be conveniently reached. 

Don’t worry too much because you’ll know you are already approaching when you start noticing nice beaches on your right hand side. There are sign boards of various beach resorts along the roadsides welcoming you!
V-Hire

Aside from the bus, you can take this van going to Basdaku from South Bus Terminal. For both bus and van, it takes about 2 and a half to 3 hours to reach Basdaku. A private vehicle can get there faster – about 1 and half hours only!

Motorcycles are omniscient in this part of the world. Motorcycle is the mode of transportation, although there are some cars/taxis and vans available. However, motorcycles always await the passengers coming and you’ll hear drivers calling you. When you decide which one just inform the driver to bring you to your destination. But first, make sure you have some idea about the price."

The next day, although it was windy and cloudy, he and Esa enjoyed kayaking.  In the afternoon around past 3 pm, the rain woke him up while sleeping on a sunbed.  He then went to a restaurant to eat since he was hungry.  The rain was such a spoiler.

Have you had any ghostlike or scary experiences since you started traveling to other countris?  "No, what do you mean? haha Have I seen ghosts or feel them or what?  But I think the answer is no. hahaha."

They also tried to rent motorbikes and went to the other waterfalls.

They went to the chili bar/restaurant, met some Filipinos, went camping with them where they drank till sunrise.

The next day he and Esa spent Sunday just chilling in the restaurant.

“What can you say about the Philippines?”  “Everybody should go to the Philippines…or not everybody cause then this place would be ruined”

“How’s the people treating you there?”  “Too good…yea, all of you Filipinas are sooo nice, you too”.  That was so nice of Henri to say.

Tumalog Waterfalls, Oslob, Cebu by Henri

The next day, they went to TUMALOG WATERFALLS.  Look at these Falls!!  It has an implication of a unique horseshoe waterfall.

It is also called TOSLOB falls or MAG-AMBAK falls.  

It is recommended that YOU visit the falls AFTER the whale shark watching, since it is just approximately 5-7 minutes away via car or motorbike.

From the main road, you go up the mountain and reach the parking area.  From the parking area, one can choose to hike 15 minutes downwards to the falls or rent a motorbike(habal-habal) at approximately 50 per person both ways. (trip advisor)

When you go there, make sure you wear comfy yet sturdy shoes or sandugo sandals because the road going to it is steep.  Prepare your legs so you won't get cramps.  You know the saying, it's easier to get down but your brakes (muscles) against the gravity must be ready.  

When you see want some time, you can rent some log cottages at a minimum price. 

Just like any waterfalls, water flows down but this one is elegantly flowing atop the green moss like a fine horse hair. You know what they say about horse hair.  

The height is so majestic, that standing right under the water is not advised because of the force and current.  You may do a little hide-and-bath behind the falls instead.

You may also do a little dip by the side where a mini pool-like is which height is just by the knee.  For Henri's height, it's so shallow.

Travel Expense:

1.  20 php - entrance fee

2. 155 php - One way Aircon bus from Cebu South Bus Terminal to Oslob.

150 for ordinary bus.  

3.  50 php for habal-habal, one way.

Henri by far has enjoyed waterfalls. Standing behind it was like a postcard. Who wouldn't love waterfalls?!

Whale Shark Watching, Oslob, Cebu by Henri

Only the three of them (Esa, Juha and him) boarded Cebu Pacific going to Cebu City the next day.  The others have already gone back home to Finland while Samuel stayed behind in Puerto Princesa.  They arrived there around past 6 pm.

Let's see what Cebu has to offer -

On the 22nd, they went to the terminal around quarter to 11 am and took the  P135.00, 3-5 hours bus going to OSLOB.

The next day, they had the whale shark adventure.  Too bad he had no underwater camera then to take the whale shark photos. A foreigner tourist was kind enough to share his video with Henri.  

During that time, Juha flew back to Finland leaving Henri and Esa together.-

First on the list is the OSLOB WHALE SHARK WATCHING! Yes! It is Whale Shark guys! Henri and Esa enjoyed it a lot. They were not allowed the touch the giant fish but he said it's impossible because they swam so near you enough to feel them on your skin.  Wow!! I so want to have that experience. Only the locals are allowed to feed them.  I wonder why those giants there...

The Town of Oslob, south-east of Cebu City, is known for Whale Sharks that visit the area daily. It is approximately three (3) hours drive from Cebu City proper passing through the towns of Naga, San Fernando, Carcar, Sibonga, Argao, Dalaguete, Alcoy and Boljoon before reaching Oslob located in the southern tip of Cebu City.   Oslob is also the jump off point to Sumilon Island and nearby is Tumalog Falls, a must-see when visiting the PLACE. Location

The Island of Sumilon is located off the southeast coast of the Municipality of Oslob, Cebu, and is under the administration of Oslob. The island is about 125 kilometers from Cebu City and separated from the mainland by the Cebu Strait. It is also close to Dumaguete City in the nearby island province of Negros Oriental.

HOW TO GO TO OSLOB:

• To get to Oslob, you can ride a public bus or a V-hire van from the Cebu South Bus Terminal in Cebu City. The estimated travel time from the city to Oslob is about three hours. The three-hour land trip to Oslob from Cebu City is a scenic ride through the southern coastal towns with fantastic views of the ocean.
• From the port of Oslob, there are pump boats or small fast constructs that will bring you to the island. Another route to Sumilon Island is via Dumaguete City since it is also close to the island.
